2013 Memorandum of Understanding to Improve Infrastructure in Indian Country

Hopi water storage tankThe lack of access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation in Indian Country continues to threaten the public health of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities. In 2010, approximately 12% of AI/AN homes did not have safe water and/or basic sanitation facilities.  An Infrastructure Task Force to improve access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation in Indian country was formed in 2003. It included members from five federal agencies. All federal partners renewed their commitment to the Task Force in early 2013 through signing a Memorandum of Understanding to continue federal coordination in delivering water infrastructure, wastewater infrastructure and solid waste management services to tribal communities.  Learn more at www.epa.gov/tp/trprograms/infra-water.htm
